And just when you think you’ve thought of everything …
A 2018 Infection Control Today article shed light on how easy it is to forget to remember everything!
Summit Health in Pennsylvania has 175 item checklist to run against when environmental services teams terminally clean a room. In spite of the thorough SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) in place, a problem was found in the little metal trays hanging off of the whiteboards throughout the facility.
“In an inspection of 55 cleaned and prepared patient rooms, 39 markers and 52 erasers were identified and tested for the presence of Adenosine triphosphate (ATP), an indicator for the presence of biological residues. Not a single marker and only two erasers passed the test”
Sounds like a brand new 176 item checklist is about to published!
